Students

“School sucks!”

Why is it that young people can be deeply focused and engaged in the stories of a Netflix show, and binge watch for hours, but struggle to do 30mins of reading homework?  Why does the same student who has watched Hamilton twenty times have zero interest in US History?  Why does the young boy or girl who watches youtube videos about mechanics struggle to pass physics?  There is a deep lack of connection going on.  What you need is a guide to help you create a genuine connection to the required material.  School shouldn’t be miserable and sometimes the disconnect can make even the brightest students feel incapable or insufficient. If you’re struggling with staying engaged and interested in class, having a 1+1 guide to help you relate to your classes may be the solution. Imagine how it would feel to go to class and feel energized by the subjects and understand how they would benefit your life in a profound and exciting way.

Teachers

“I am struggling in my classroom!”

Managing a classroom is incredibly challenging. When you feel like you have very little control over your classroom sometimes it makes you want to give up. No matter how hard you try to get students to respect your position it’s never enough. Being a teacher is such an unusual job.  It is both enjoyable and exhausting, easy & effortless at some times, and unbelievably difficult & stressful at other times. There is hope. I’ve taught in some of the wealthiest and the most poverty-stricken communities in Los Angeles. Very few teachers can say they have been able to connect to the children of billionaire hedge fund managers & A-list celebrities as well as homeless immigrants living out of a car and members of violent gangs. Whether it is classroom management or creating engaging lesson plans, I can help give you strategies and provide opportunities to brainstorm the best approaches for taking control of your classroom to ensure you and your students flourish.

Parents

“My child hates school!”

Watching young people struggle with school and question their own abilities/potential can be a heartbreaking experience for parents. Especially when you are highly aware of their potential. Education should be teaching students HOW to think not WHAT to think, and in the current politically charged environment many teachers put politics as a central part of their curriculum. If you’re a parent that feels stuck with very few alternatives to your child’s current school, having a tutor that’s widely regarded as an expert in viewpoint diversity can help provide the much needed balance to the ideas your child is bringing home from school.

“School can be done better and those in the classroom each and every day are the ones who know how to improve it. Deeply rooted systems (like that of education in America) can only be changed if there are enough individuals willing to do the work necessary. This includes teachers, administrators, students, parents, and simply concerned individuals.”
